Barack Obama...2008 Presidential Candidate

Senator Barack Obama: Illinois

In December of 2005, The New Republic Online ran an article call “Why Barack Obama Should Run For President In 2008… Run On” (by Ryan Lizza) In this article, Ryan gave us a compelling reason why Barack Obama must run for president in 2008.  “…the Senate operates as both America's incubator of presidential ambitions and the retirement home of its failed candidates. The well-known curse of the Senate is that it both elevates politicians to within striking distance of the White House and burdens them with the baggage of a complicated voting record and the stench of the Beltway”

The Chicago Tribune columnist Eric Zorn in an article titled  08 Reasons Why Obama Will Run For President gave us his spin on the reasons why:

  1. He can't be sure when the bloom will fade.
  2. The Democratic field appears weak.
  3. The Republican field looks weak too.
  4. Another shooting-star, hope-for-tomorrow politician is coming up behind him in the Democratic ranks.
  5. Warren G. Harding, in 1921, and John F. Kennedy, in 1961moved directly from the U.S. Senate to the White House.
  6. The chance might not present itself again until 2016.
  7. He'll have the money.
  8. He'll want at least to lay the groundwork for future national races.
