Career Center
There is a war being raged for new and seasoned talent at the epic center of the financial services industry and capital markets. Companies are deploying the best Recruiters to help acquire talented human capital to maintain their Financial Services Team of Professionals. Recruiters are vital to insuring proper staffing at all levels of the Financial Services Industry e.g. asset managers, commercial and investment banks, insurance companies, and other financial institutions.
Independence and Hard Work
Many of the job opportunities and careers we will discuss in this section will involve entrepreneurship or requiring certain levels of independence, financial risk and hard work. Independence carries with it the need to make one's own decisions and responsibility for one's decisions. Some people enjoy this responsibility, others may not. Entrepreneurs must work long and hard hours and put their new venture ahead of their personal and family life. They enjoy their work, even when at the onset there is little or no promise of extraordinary financial gain. These entrepreneurs tend to expect the same attitude in others. Also keep in mind that banking and insurance jobs in financial services tend to be rather more layered and deeper chain of commands than firms whose principal lines of business are in securities brokerage (or financial advisory services), investment banking, securities trading, investment management (or money management), and/or securities research. This will become apparent as you read, discover and learn about great careers in financial services.
Networking...Always
Keep in mind you that it is your responsibility to market yourself. You need to establish and maintain beneficial relationships. Business networking is an invaluable tool to gain information, increase visibility and make all the right connections.Find mentors that you admire and connect with at a career level. Do not only network with your associates only when you need a job. People are not going to be interested in helping you if it seems you only reach out them when you need something.Think about it...even though you are unemployed, you can help other people find jobs. You lost your job...not your skills and smarts!. Participate in association events and association sponsored events. Helping out your people in your career network is the best way to ensure they will remember and help you. If you know someone in your network is looking for work, send them potential job openings. Remember, you don't just have to contact people at organizations to which you have applied. The point of networking is not just to get an extra boost to your chances at a particular job; it is also to make you aware of opportunities you might not have discovered otherwise. Plan activities that make you bump into people. Yes…it is embarrassing and humbling but you need to let people know you need their help. So if you head to the gym to exercise…go to the gym at 6 a.m. or after 6 p.m. so you bump into people with jobs and possible job leads. Get other ideas here
